This magnificient construction over the Waiwhakaiho River is part of the coastal walkway system north of New Plymouth. Recently, at the International Bridge Conference, this bridge was awarded the Arthur G Hayden Medal which recognises outstanding achievement in bridge engineering that demonstrates innovation in special-use bridges. Quite an achievement.  Locals are proud of the bridge! Visitors are bowled over by the bridge!

Being in a highly corrosive sea-coast environment, a high performing coating system was required for long-term corrosion protection.  Whitaker Civil Engineering Ltd was contracted for the design and construction of the bridge. Fitzroy Engineering was subsequently subcontracted for the steel fabrication and TBS Coatings completed the coating system.
